Document Description
The project proposes to reconstruct 465 acres of wetlands in the Prado Basin. Following the construction of the Prado Dam in 1941, the Wetlands were originally constructed by duck hunting enthusiasts in the 1970's. Orange County Water District (OCWD) began formally operating the wetlands to remove nitrates and other pollutants from Santa Ana River flows in 1993. The Wetlands were severely damaged and rendered inoperable after the Santa Ana River meandered through them during a storm-induced flow during the 2004-2005 rain season. The wetlands will be reconstructed within their original footprint.
