Dana Point Harbor Boat Launch Ramp Renovation

The proposed project is the renovation of the existing boat launch facilities. The existing 225-foot-wide ramp will be replaced in kind with a new 225-foot-wide boat launch ramp and apron and will be extended an additional 16 feet into the water. It will be located within the footprint of the original ramp construction, since the 24 foot end portion of the original ramp was not paved but consisted of a filter rock-covered slope. Three eight-foot-wide boarding float docks will replace the existing two six foot-wide float docks, and each will be accessible to persons with disabilities in conformance with ADA guidelines for recreational facilities. The existing north and south bulkhead walls will be assessed and rehabilitated as necessary in their current location. A trench train will be installed along the ramp apron to collect runoff and treat it via an in-line storm water filtration vault. The treated runoff will continue to an existing storm drain that discharges into the harbor. The boat wash area will also be resurfaced, and a filtered catch basin will be installed to screen boat wash runoff before it is sent to the sanitary sewer system for treatment. A vessel sanitary pumpout station will also be added to the boat wash area to service vessels using the boat ramp. Sewage from the pumpout station will also be discharged into the sanitary sewer system. Demolition and construction of the ramp will occur in two phases, with a minimum of three boat launch lanes to remain in service during construction.
