Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15303, 15306
Reasons for Exemption
This PIER contract is exempt for two reasons. First, under Sec. 15303, the project will result in the installation of small, new equipment, namely an 80 kW, combined heat and power (CHP) system. Secondly, under Sec. 15306, this contract is for basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities that do not result in major disturbances to an environmental resource. Once the CHP system is installed, it will be tested and data will be collected to assess its performance. There should not be a major disturbance to the environment because the CHP system should meet the California Air Resources Board's 2007 emissions requirements.
