Document Description
Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility (SJVRWRF) collects and treats municipal sewage and produces recycled water for reuse. The SJVRWRF currently produces only secondary recycled water. Secondary recycled water can be used to irrigate fiber, and feed and seed crops not consumed directly by humans. A higher level of treatment, known as tertiary treatment, effectively removes bacteria, viruses, and virtually all suspended solids. At this level of treatment, recycled water can be used for any purpose except direct human consumption of treatment; recycled water can be used for any purpose exempt direct human consumption (drinking). The SJVRWRF service area is experiencing growth and based on current flow rate projections, the SJVRWRF's treatment capacity must be increased and the capability to produce tertiary recycled water added. To meet present and projected future tertiary treatment requirements, EMWD is proposing the addition of tertiary treatment facilities and the modification of existing facility that will provide the plant with a capacity to produce an annual average of 14 million gallons per day of tertiary treated recycled water. Upon completion, the proposed project will accommodate planned growth within the SJVRWRF services are and improve the quality and increase the potential uses of the recycled water discharged from the plant.
