Document Description
This project will renovate the Elephant Tree Nature Trail, a 1-mile, heavily-used trail in the Fish Creek area of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The trail is a desert wash that is subject to periodic washout. Five new 36-inch 4" x 4" wooden posts will be installed for interpretive signage, some in the same place as previous posts and a few in new places. The posts will be sunk 18-24" deep and set in concrete. Old metal and deteriorated wooden posts will be removed. Some minor trail repair will take place to make the trail safer and easier to follow. The site was tested for the presence of archeological resources and determined not significant under CEQA. Some surface artifacts were mapped and/or collected. A monitoring program will be instituted to access the effects of public trail use on surface archaeological materials adjacent to the trail.
