In August 2004, a leak was detected in the West Valley Feeder No. 1. Metropolitan proposes to replace approximately 260 feet of the 54-inch diameter pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe with welded steel pipe of the same dimensions and install a manhole-pumping well structure.
