Document Description
In 2005, the Los Angeles College District (LACCD) approved a Facilities Master Plan (Master Plan) and certified the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Thirty-Year Master Plan Final EIR (2005 FEIR). Renovation and re-use of the Grand Theater has been found to be infeasible and inconsistent with LACCD's programming and educational goals for the campus; therefore, demolition is proposed. Open space and a new campus entry is proposed for the location of the current Grand Theater. The Grand Theater (also known as the Magnolia Hall Auditorium) was constructed in 1924. The building is substantially deteriorated but is considered historic for purposes of CEQA. The 29,976 square foot Grand Theater has been renovated several times over the years and has been vacant since 2009. After demolition of the building open space and a new campus entry is proposed in the area currently occupied by the Grand Theater
