Document Description
This project falls under the Santa Cruz Countywide Permit Coordination Program the Santa Cruz County Resource Conservation District (RCD) administers, for small, environmentally beneficial projects in Santa Cruz County. The project is located at Harkins Slough, tributary to the Pajaro River, in the County of Santa Cruz. Project activities include to the removal of pennywort and accumulated sediment that is impairing the Harkins Slough pumps utilized for groundwater recharge and irrigation supply for the surrounding agricultural basin. A total of 4,500 square feet of nuisance vegetation and approximately 625 square feet of accumulated sediment will be removed in the area surrounding the existing pumps to allow the Pajaro Valley Water Management Area to put to beneficial use the full 2000 ac-ft/Yr in their existing water rights permit. Pennywort will be removed by hand or mechanically with a long armed excavator and attachment from atop the channel banks, Sediment will be removed using a suction dredge from atop the existing pump station bridge, or from the channel banks. The California Department of Fish and Game is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement, Number 1600-2011-0373-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County.
