Document Description
This project is under the Master Permit issued to the Santa Cruz County Resource Conservation District (RCD) to administer the Santa Cruz Countywide Permit Coordination Program for small, environmentally beneficial projects on private lands in Santa Cruz County. Project activities include removal of sediment from the upper pond, replacement of the outlet and re-vegetation of the area to improve habitat for California red-legged frog at Middle Watsonville Slough adjacent to Harkins Slough in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County. A Sediment basin will be installed upstream of the upper pond to capture sediment and to mitigate flows to allow dry down of the upper pond to control bullfrog populations. 60,000 sf of upland habitat currently vegetated with hemlock will be replaced with coastal scrub and oak woodland. The California Department of Fish and Game is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement, Number 1600-2010-0227-R3, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County.
