Document Description
The project is the approval of the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) by the DTSC that would authorize a remedial investigation characterizing the nature and extent of munitions or explosive of concern (MEC), munitions debris (MD), and munitions constituents (MC) located in MRS 03 (approx. 7,725 acres). MRS 03 is located within the boundary of the previous Site Investigation conducted in 2005-2007, and is part of a training area historically used for US military training activities from 1940 to 1957. Munitions or Explosives of Concerned (MEC) found at MRS 03 as a part of this investigation, which present an imminent and substantia endangerment, will be destroyed by explosive demolition in place (UXO activities). DTSC prepared an IS/ND for the Site Investigation, which covered an area encompassing MRS 03. Based on the analysis, it was determined that there would be no significant impacts due to project activities. The activities that will occur as part of the current project are same as those that were previously analyzed and no new impacts have been identified. Major project tasks at the site are as follows: Perform Biological surveys for avoidance and protection of sensitive species and habitat. Identify cultural resources within the project area and avoid them during intrusive investigations and UXO activities. Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control seeding in study area. Perform Analog Geophysical Surveys for MEC and MD surface clearance. Perform Digital Geophysical Surveys (DGS) for subsurface MEC identification. Perform Intrusive investigations of subsurface anomalies identified by DGS, and detonation in place of excavated MEC items (UXO activities) as required. Perform Surface soil sampling for MC as needed.
