This project, to be carried out by the San Diego People for Trees in partnership with the County of San Diego, involves the planting of 335 trees on various city streets, public places and school grounds within areas of the 4th Supervisional District. It is anticipated that this project will commence in October 2004 and will be completed by March 2007. Trees will be non-native ornamentals that have been selected for their disease resistance, adaptation to the urban landscape, shade capacity, and minimal litter production. Trees will vary in size from 15 gallon to 24-inch box, depending on planting location. All trees will be planted, staked and tied, watered and maintained in accordance with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's tree planting guidelines.

Reasons for Exemption
As a lead agency under CEQA, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection finds that this project is Categorically Exempt from further environmental analysis. This project involves minor alterations to land and vegetation including the planting of new landscaping trees. As this is a heavily disturbed urban environment there is a low likelihood of impacting any significant biological resources. CDF's staff have reviewed this project and determined that there are no cultural or historic resources present in the project vicinity. CDF finds that the proposed activities will pose a less than sinificant impact to the environment including cultural, historic and biological resources.
