Document Description
This project, with a total budget of $51,313 of which $21,050 is granted by Proposition 12 funds, is to be carried out by the Business Improvement District Foundation. It involves the planting of 170 trees in various locations throughout the City of San Diego. It is anticipated that the project will commence in October 2004 and be completed by March 2007, excepting maintenance. Trees will be native and non-native ornamentals that have been selected for their disease resistance, adaptation to the urban landscape, shade capacity, and minimal litter production. Trees will be 15 gallon size, and all trees will be planted, staked and tied, watered and maintained in accordance with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's tree planting guidelines.

Reasons for Exemption
As a lead agency under CEQA, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection finds that this project is Categorically Exempt from further environmental analysis. This project involves minor alterations to land and vegetation including the planting of new landscaping trees. As this is a heavily disturbed urban environment there is a low likelihood of impacting any significant biological resources. CDF's staff have reviewed this project and determined that there are no cultural or historic resources present in the project vicinity. CDF finds that the proposed activities will pose a less than sinificant impact to the environment including cultural, historic and biological resources.
