Document Description
The Santa Barbara County Public Works Department, Resource Recovery and Waste Management Division proposes to repair the cover or "cap" of the Santa Maria Airport Closed Landfill. The cover of the landfill has been eroded by wind and water, esposing waste, a condition that has been exacerbated by unauthorized recreational motorcycle use. Settlement of the refuse has resulted in depressions in the landfill's cap that collect water and increases the potential for water to infiltrate the waste resulting in decreased groundwater quality. The cap would be repaired by covering the closed landfill with soil.
