Document Description
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing to construct a new advanced Airport Surveillance Radar System (ASR-11) at Santa Barbara Airport to detect and track aircraft movement in the vicinity of the Airport and the region. The ASR-11 system would replace the existing ASR-8 facility, which would be removed after installation and commissioning of the new ASR-11 system. The new system would be located approximately 300 feet southeast of the existing ASR-8 facility on a 200 foot by 200 foot parcel. The proposed ASR-11 system would consist of a primary surveillance radar (PSR) and a monopulse secondary surveillance radar (MSSR) mounted on a steel lattice tower with a height of 77 feet above ground level. A radio transmitter and other electronic equipment necessary to operate the facility would be located on a new one-story shelter located at the base of the tower.
