Document Description
Bohan & Canelis is requesting authorization to expand the area of instream gravel mining activities on Austin Creek and to carry out a modified mining and reclamation approach which departs from the existing ARM Plan and County Code. The proposed mining plan would remove gravel below the water surface by excavating alcoves on the downstream ends of bars, and pools on the outside bends of bars. Setback zones along the low flow channel will be allowed to build up in order to encourage more natural scouring of deep pools by winter floods. These pools and alcoves and buffer zones would be retained and maintained in the reclamation plan. The application requests a change in the mining standards to provide improved salmonid habitat and migration for instream mining in Austin Creek within a 4,000-foot Lower Reach where it joins the Russian River.
