Document Description
The City Department of Parks and Recreation is developing Orchard Park as a 13.5-acre community park. The park site is located in the South Natomas Community Plan area, east of West River Drive, west of Natomas Main Drainage Canal, south of W. El Camino Avenue and northeast of Leroy Green Middle School. Phase I of this park project was reviewed under a previous Negative Declaration, and construction began in 2003 and is nearing completion. Phase II of the project is largely within the scope of the original Negative Declaration, which has been reviewed and is being re-circulated for an additional 30-day review period for the purpose of obtaining State grant funding. Phase II elements will include natural riparian enhancements and a bike trail along the west side of the Main Drainage Canal. The proposed park is a component of the Department of Parks and Recreation's 2000 Master Plan for Park Facilities and Recreation Services, which identifies the site as a Neighborhood Park located adjacent to park compatible use areas.
