Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-SON-55312-R3, pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, to the project Applicant, Kelly Creek Protection Project of Earth Island Institute.
The project is limited to the construction of two pedestrian bridges across Kelly Creek, two rock retaining walls, two storm drain outfall structures, a rock ford crossing of Kelly Creek, and bank stabilization along Kelly Creek as part of a new trail system. One bridge will measure approximately 8 feet wide by 75 feet long and the other bridge will measure approximately 6 feet wide by 34 feet long. The pedestrian bridges will be prefabricated steel bridges that fully span the creek. Both bridges will have rock armoring around both abutments. The rock ford crossing will measure approximately 12 feet wide by 20 feet long, with an associated roughened ramp grade control structure immediately downstream. These project aspects will result in approximately 0.12 acres (5,284 square feet) of permanent impacts to riparian habitat, and approximately 0.03 acres (1,438 square feet) of temporary impacts to riparian habitat. The temporary impacts include access and staging. The project will also result in the removal of 13 riparian trees. The project also includes the restoration of an eroded pond spillway, and restoration of five eroding gullies with the construction of rock grade control structures, fabric reinforced fill structures (FREFs), and native plantings. The restoration actions will result in approximately 0.51 acres (22,060 square feet) of temporary impact to riparian habitat and approximately 0.06 acres (2,686 square feet) of temporary impact to wetland habitat but will provide an overall enhancement in habitat quality once completed. As part of the project, mitigation in the form of approximately 4.59 acres (200,023 square feet) of additional riparian restoration plantings and approximately 0.16 acres (6,978 square feet) of wetland restoration will be conducted on-site. Temporary irrigation will be installed to maintain the plantings.
