Document Description
The project will remove an estimated 1,700 cubic yards of soil containing elevated concentrations of mercury from Area A of the Building 203 Drainage to achieve site specific background levels (0.09 mg/kg). The objective of the Building 203 Drainage Interim Measures (IM) is to prevent further migration from the source area on a hillside and drainage immediately north of Building 203. This IM is being conducted pursuant to the Department of Toxic Substances Control's, RCRA Facility Investigation enforcement order (Nov. 1992).

The project activities will be done in a manner absent of potential environmental effects...1) The volume of contaminated soil that will be removed is limited to 1,700 cubic yars. 2) No borrow soild will be required for Area A to backfill the excavation. 3) Ambient air quality will be moniroted for organic vapor and dust for the protection of employees and subsontactors... 4) The project activities will not affect sensitive plants or animals dewlling within plant habitats. 5) The project location is remote. 6) Fieldwork will not affect surface water quality. 7) Groundwater quality will not be affected by the excavation activites... 8) Slope stability will not be affected.
