Document Description
Rehabilitate worn-out camping facilities and correct improper drainage facilities at D.L. Bliss State Park to reduce the amount of sediment flow into the lake, improve visitor services, and support continued use and maintenance. This project is part of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program. The campsite rehabilitation work consists of constructing rock retaining walls and steps, handrails, and regrading of camp areas. Where necessary, hose bibs will be relocated , added or eliminated. Some CCC concrete based tables and Diablo Stoves will be replocated or replaced. Improvement to parking spurs will enhance visitor ingress and egress as well as the usability of campsites. Drainage facilities will be added to the campsites, interior of park and beach campgrounds to enhance the storm runoff water system and create retention areas for storm flows, correcting improper surface drainage, minimize the erosion of soil and debt flow to the lake. Work will also include repaving 1/2 mile of asphalt paving to modify a road to redirect surface water to its natural drainage course; lining approximately 4,000 linear feet of existing ditches with rock to slow and reduce the force of water, and constructing 12-18 sediment basins (approximately 15' long x 30' wide by 18" deep each) to catch debris; saw-cutting drain swales into the existing pavement to direct water to natural drainage course; relocating seven campsites to an area outside of the natural drainage course; and re-aligning the drainage course to its original path (prior to the initial construction of the campground).
