Document Description
The City of Fontana (City) proposes to purchase a 13.75-acre parcel for use as a future park site. The City of Fontana General Plan's Park, Recreation and Trails Element indicates that there is a park deficiency in the City; specifically, the north Fontana area is under-served by three neighborhood parks. The proposed neighborhood park's size would be consistent with other similar parks in the City, which are approximately 10 to 20 acres each. The acquisition of the 13.75-acre parcel for park use meets a specific need of providing parkland within the northern Fontana area, and the City's objective of purchasing the parcel for future park use would reduce the identified deficiency of parkland in the City. At this time, the City does not currently have plans for development of the site; however, the City anticipates that it will develop the parcel as an active use park. According to the City's General Plan, the service area of an neighborhood active use park is a one mile radius and the uses allowed included restrooms/snack bar sport fields with lights; basketball courts with lights; playground with equipment, and other amenities.
