Document Description
LADWP proposes to construct, operate, and maintain the Pine Tree Wind Development Project, a wind energy generation project, consisting of eighty 1.5-megawatt wind turbine generators. The project would also include several meteorological towers, an underground and overhead electrical collection system, a substation, an operations and maintenance (O&M) facility and yard, an approximately 8-mile-long 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line, and associated access roads. The 230-kV transmission line would connect the proposed project substation to the existing LADWP Inyo-Rinaldi 230-kV transmission line. Portions of the project that will occur in covered species habitat are limited to project components that would occur in Jawbone and Pine Tree Canyons. These components include the existing access roads, and the switching station in Pine Tree Canyon. Only project components that occur within threatened and endangered habitat are addressed in the above Incidental Take Permit. The project will result in permanent impacts to approximately 5.05 acres of occupied habitat and the temporary loss of 27.45 acres of occupied habitat for desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and/or Mohave ground squirrel (Spermophilus mohavensis), species which are designated as threatened under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The permit referenced above as issued by CDFG authorizes incidental take of the species under CESA that may occur as a result of project implementation.
