Document Description
This project consists of excavation and recovery of vertebrate fossils, tentatively identified as a mammoth limb bone, in order to protect and conserve teh specimen. The extremely fragile and friable speciment is exposed in the wall of an actively eroding wash bank in the Hidden Canyon area of the Borrego Badlands. Because the fossil is embedded in the wash wall, the project will involve the removal of about one cubic meter of sedimentary deposit that directly overlies the bone.
