The proposed project includes the rehabilitation of a portion of US 395, which includes placing asphalt concrete overlay on the roadbed, widening shoulders to current standards, adding shoulder backing, improving drainage, reconstructing metal beam guardrails, and two small curve corrections. The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) previously issued an incidental take permit for the Mohave ground squirrel and desert tortoise, species which are protected under the California Endangered Species Act.
