City of Buellton Housing Element Update

The proposed project is an update of the 1993 City of Buellton Housing Element. A Draft Housing Element has been proposed by the City to comply with the legal mandate that requires each local government to adequately plan to meet the existing and projected housing needs of all economic segments of the community. The proposed Housing Element provides programs, policies, and actions that together evidence the ability to meet the City's regional fair share of housing needs by the year 2008. The number assigned to the City of Buellton pursuant to the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) process is 536 new dwelling units. Through various implementing actions including density bonuses and application of a new Affordable Housing Overlay Zone, an even greater number of units may result. The Housing Element does not require the construction of these units but rather establishes policies that will allow for and support their development.
