Document Description
The County Public Works Dep. is constructing new left turn lanes on Los Berros Rd. at the intersection with El Campo Rd. One aspect of the road widening requires relocation of a 10-inch oil pipeline. Upon evaluation of the site by the County, it became evident that erosion along Los Berros Creek had exposed the pipeline and was cutting into the area where the widening will take place. The eroded stream bank is approx. 500 ft southeast of the intersection of Los Berros Rd. and El Campo Rd. The County proposes to stabilize the bank in order to allow road widening and pipeline relocation to proceed. Repairing the erosion at Los Berros Creek will entail excavating and filling in the eroded area to provide a uniform slope in order to place rock slope protection (RSP). Once native material is excavated, woven filter fabric will be placed atainst the slope. Imported rock backing material and RSP fill will and the toe will be covered with excavated native soil. A 4-inch layer of topsoil obtained on site will be placed over the RSP and the slope will then be revegetated with an appropriate seed mix and willow plantings. All staging areas will be outside of the channel. The project will be funded by local roads funds.
