Document Description
The Kern County Roads Dept. proposes to construct Red Apple Avenue between Tucker Road (SH 202) and Westwood Blvd. Before construction may occur: the proposed alignment of Red Apple Avenue necessitates the approval of a Specific Plan Line; the adoption of a General Plan Amendment is necessary to delete Reeves Street, north of Red Apple Avenue, as a secondary roadway; the proposed realignment of Reeves Street at the Red Apple Avenue intersection requires the adoption of a Specific Plan Line; the acquisition of right-of-way (60 ft. min.) for the 90-ft.-wide roadway is necessary for construction; and a street name change from Red Apple Avenue to West Tehachapi Boulevard is proposed by the County Planning Department to provide continuity and to cause less confusion for the traveling public and in emergency response situations. Construction would consist of a two-lane paved roadway, 24 feet wide with 8-foot-wide graded, dirt shoulders on both sides, and approximately 0.8 miles in length. The project would include modifying the traffic light system and intersection configuration at Tucker Road (State Route 202) and constructing wheelchair ramps. Turn lanes may be constructed at Reeves Street and Westwood Boulevard. The intersection of Reeves Street at Red Apple Avenue would be modified according to County Development Standards. Drainage culverts, paved shoulders and/or slope protection would be constructed where Red Apple Avenue crosses a major drainage. Two-way stop signs may be installed on Mcintosh Street, Winesap Street, and Reeves Street where they intersect with Red Apple Avenue. An all-way stop sign may be considered at the intersection of Red Apple Avenue and Westwood Boulevard.
