Document Description
A 20-acre parcel in the flood plain adjacent to the left bank (looking downstream) and west of the river was used for agricultural production, but high flows during 1978 and subsequent years destroyed the levee and inundated the site. The entire parcel now forms a densely vegetated Arundo thicket with scattered willow, cottonwood, and eucalyptus trees. The proposed project would restore the parcel to agricultural production. A dozer would be used to remove Arundo and place it in piles where it would later be destroyed. The eucalyptus trees would be removed from the site. Willows and cottonwoods would be pushed against the west side of the levee to form a dense riparian thicket for bank protection and wildlife habitat. No construction would occur on the river side of the levee. A low area would be left on the levee at the upstream and downstream ends of the site to enable high flows to backwater into the site without carrying sediment into the area. The site would then be leveled and planted with crops. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number 1600-2003-0444-3 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1603.
