Document Description
The proposed project/action includes the construction & operation of a 400 cubic feet per second (CFS) land-side pump station & screened intake facility on the west bank of the Sacramento River, just north of I-5 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge. The purpose of the facility is to replace the existing 400 cfs unscreened diversion facility in order to meet anadromous fish regulations while continuing sufficient flows for irrigation & waterfowl management. The existing pump station cannot be retrofitted to meet current fish screen design standards that have been developed by NOAA Fisheries (formerly the National Marine Fisheries Service, 1997) & the California Department of Fish & Game (CDFG, 1997). The new pump station will be sited at RD2035's main canal & will be connected to the new flat-plate screened intake via pipes thorugh the levee. The design of the facility incorporates industry standard design techniques & best management practices for construction activities. The existing pump station structure will be removed &/or demolished & its conduit through the levee will be sealed with concrete.
