Document Description
The proposed project will reroute current and future Capitol Corridor passenger rail service from the Niles Subdivision of the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) to the Oakland Subdivision of the UPRR between Hayward and Fremont to allow Capitol Corridor inter-city rail service trains to access the planned City of Union City Intermodal Station. Rerouting of the inter-city rail service onto the Oakland Subdivision will require new connections at both ends of the study corridor: Connecting the Niles Subdivision to the Oakland Subdivision, one new connection in Hayward just south of Industrial Parkway (commonly referred to as the Industrial connection), and one in Fremont near Shinn Street (commonly referred to as the Shinn connection). These connections would allow the passenger rail station direct access to BART at the planned Union City Intermodal Station with a common concourse.
