Document Description
The primary objective of the project is to greatly expand available gallery space, but also would provide better visitor amenities, state of the art collection management areas and dedicated program space, including an auditorium, museum store, meeting rooms, art studios for community use, and allow consolidation of the museum collections in one place from storage areas that are currently scattered around the city. Total expansion is 100,000 square feet. The new facilities would be located adajcent to and would connect to the existing historic Crocker Art Museum building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the interior areas of the existing historic Crocker Art Museum building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the interior areas of the existing historic buildings will be cosmetically altered or improved. The proposed project will modify vehicle circulation via the abandonment of a portion of 2nd Street to the west and reconfigure existing parking lots via use of Cal Trans frontage along Interstate 5.
