Document Description
The purpose of the River Road Treatment Wetlands Project is to improve the water quality of the Santa Ana River Supplies that recharge the Orange County Water District groundwater basin. The project will reduce high levels of nitrate that are both a human health threat as well as a threat to water recharge. The treatment wetlands would divert water flow from the Santa Ana River to treatment wetlands and then back to the river downstream. By reducing nitrates, health concerns would be reduced. Project benefits also include restoration and enhancement of habitat for endangered species, arundo removal, expansion of public access and recreation, and visual enhancement.
