Document Description
The project is to issue a hazardous waste facility permit to the Southern California Edison, San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), which would allow for the storage of mixed waste storage is limited to one year. The permit requires SONGS to manage mixed waste in a manner that is protective of human health and the year. The permit requires SONGS to manage mixed waste in a manner that is protectiveof hujan health and the environment. The mixed waste is generated from on-site equipment and facility maintenance of turbine and pump oils, chemical cleaning, or painting projects. SONGS is limited to storing mixed waste in sealed containers, in secure, designated areas. No more than 56,750 gallons of liquid mixed waste and 87.5 cubic feet of solid mixed waste may be stored. The storage of mixed waste is necessary to allow for the consolidation, profiling and the availability of off -site treatment and disposal facilities. No other activities or changes to the facility or changes to the facility's operations are allowed.
