Document Description
The project proposes to reconstruct a treasured community bench on the Mendocino Headlands, and to install an approximate 4'x 8' gravel pad at the footing of the bench. The original bench was constructed approximately 40 years ago. Since that time, several boards were replaced and the ground beneath the bench has eroded significantly. The reconstruction will be based on photographs of the original bench. Six post holes, approximately 10 inches in diameter and less than 24 inches deep will be excavated to accommodate the support structure. Approximately 1.5 to 2 yards of gravel road base will be placed and compacted in front of the bench to raise the surface grade. Gravel will only be placed on the existing bare soil and will be prevented from covering the adjacent bluff vegetation.
