Document Description
Since October 1996, several phases of geologic exploration drilling have been performed at Perks Dam to help evaluate the existing foundation conditions. Approximately 33 exploration holes will be drilled through the dam embankment and extend 50 feet into the alluvial foundation. Standard Penetration Tests will be performed and soil samples will be taken from the embankment. On completion all holes will be backfilled by impermeable solids such as cuttings or bentonite chips / pellets or grouting with bentonite-cement.

Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 6
Reasons for Exemption
The purpose of the project is to collect data to compare to previous investigations of the foundation of Perris Dam. The purpose and land use of the facility will not change as a result of the exploratory work. While some areas near (mostly north and east) of Perris Lake are known to contain habitat for the Stephen's kangaroo rat (a Federal endangered and State threatened species), work will be confined to previously disturbed access roads and the dam face on the southwest side of the reservoir.
