Document Description
Sediment has accumulated behind the San Clemente Dam and reduced the water storage capacity from approximately 1,575 acre feet when the dam was constructed in 1921 to its current volume of approximately 140 acre-feet. As a result of pressure on the aging structure, the Department of Water Resources, Division of Dam Safety, has requested that Cal-AM lower the water surface elevation behind the dam by 10 feet as one of several safety measures to reduce the risk of flooding that may occur due to an earthquake.
