Document Description
The Dunsmuir Garden Club proposes construction of a public park at the Sacramento River in Dunsmuir, Siskiyou County. Tauhindauli park will be located beneath the Interstate 5 Bridges, which span the Sacramento River and Union Pacific Railroad, partially within Interstate (Caltrans) right of way. Facilities at the 8.7 acre park will include parking for up to 19 vehicles, portable toilets, hiking trails, river access, and picnic areas. Work within Caltrans right of way includes construction of an access road from Upper Springs Road, trails, vehicle parking spaces, installation of utilities, floodplain and wetland restoration, and a mural on one of the bridge piers next to a proposed picnic site. Floodplain and wetland restoration effects within Caltrains right of way include removal of excess fill that was placed during construction of the Interstate 5 bridges. The City of Dunsmuir prepared an Initial Study pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act and has approved a Mitigated Negative Declaration (SCH#2001042100). A Notice of Determination was filled with Governor's Office of Planning and Research on June 29, 2001.
