Consideration of approval by the Department of Toxic Substances Control of an Asbestos Contingency Plan submitted by the Union Pacific Railroad Company (UPRR). Althout remedial investigations performed at the Rail Yard did not identify the presence of asbestos-containing material in soils outside areas of the site identified as Area 83 and the Northern Shops Soil Stockpiles, UPRR acknowledges the possibility of its occurrence elsewhere onsite. The Plan establishes procedures that will be followed during excavation activities in the event asbestos-containing material is encountered.
