Document Description
For many decades, bottles, rubbish and other materials have been disposed of in a shallow, unpermitted dump site, near the headwaters of the creek. Laboratory analyses of the site have found levels of lead that exceed preliminary remediation goals established by the Environmental Protection Agency. The proposed project would completely remove debris and contaminants from the site. An excavator would be used to remove the topsoil to a depth of approximately on to two feet. Materials in the creek bed would be removed by hand and placed in the excavator bucket. All soil contaminated with hazardous waste would be disposed of at an appropriate facility. Soil that is not contaminated would be sifted to remove debris and then used as backfill over the site, then compacted and stabilized with jute netting, native grasses, and straw. Approximately 80 tons of contaminated soil and 150 tons of debris would be removed from the site. Upon completion of construction, the site would be revegetated using native grass species endemic to the site.
