Document Description
The purpose for this expansion of USBP facilities is to provide a safe and efficient working environment for 83 USBP agents, their support staff, and station equipment. The Indio Station was established at its current location in the early 1970s, and consists of a variety of renovated buildings. This development was created in reaction to the urgent need to add agents, equipment, and support resources as the amount of illegal traffic through the Indio Area of Operation (AO) increased. The existing USBP Indio Station can no longer effectively accommodate the number of USBP agents currently operation at the facility. There are currently 83 agents and 85 vehicles assigned to the station, even though the faclity was originally designed for 20 agents. Within the past 18 months, Indio Station's enforcement activity has grown by nearly 800 percent.
