Present Land Use
The parcel containing the quarry area is approximately 13.8 acres. The quarry area has an existing access road and small landing area and was used as a pit-run quarry. The property, plus adjoining properties, was logged in 1978. Remnants of an old logging road near "no-name" creek can still be seen. The land use in the general area of the project site has historically been agriculture and timber harvesting. Approximately thirteen rural residences are located within a one-mile radius to the south and east of the project. Six Rivers National Forest land is to the north, east and west. Note: Based on field investigations conducted by LACO Associates and the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District, it has been determined that chrysotile asbestos-bearing serpentine exists on portions of the project site and at peripheral sites.
Document Description
A new 15-year permit term for a previously approved hard rock quarry surface mining operation, i.e. excavation and processing. The project includes a Conditional Use Permit, Surface Mining Permit, Reclamation Plan, and review of financial assurance cost estimates for the continued operation of a hard rock quarry for an average annual extraction of 12,500 cubic yards (with a 20,000 cubic yard peak) during fifteen (15) year period. The quarry is operated intermittently. The operation was previously approved June 4, 1987 with a modification approved January 7, 1988 to authorize the intermittent placement and operation of a portable rock crusher.
