Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Game is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code, to the Project applicant. Caltrans proposes the following: Convert the four-lane expressway to a six-lane freeway. To accomplish this, Caltrans will construct three new bridges and remove the existing SR 99 northbound bridge which is 40 feet wide by 97 feet long. The two new freeway bridges to the east will be 58 feet wide and 90 feet long with 18 concrete piles each 15 inches in diameter. Approximately 2,000 cubic yards of imported soil will be placed on the creek bank to construct the bridge embankments for the three structures. Approximately 325 cubic yards of Rock Slope Protection (RSP) spread over 650 square yards will line the creek bank to provide erosion protection and would be kept free of vegetation as required by the Amended Biological Opinion for San Joaquin kit fox passage. The RSP along with the concrete piles and the abutments will have a permanent impact of approximately 0.29 acres, and temporary impacts of 0.30 acres. Removal of the existing northbound bridge will require the removal of 33 concrete piles and the abutments to at least three feet below the finished grade of the channel. Excavated soil from nearby will be used to backfill the holes and reestablish the natural channel grade. The proposed work will have a temporary impact to approximately 0.17 acres, bringing the total temporary impacts to 0.47 acres.
