Document Description
This project consists of the emergency removal of dead and diseased trees and other vegetation on non-federal lands in order to protect natural resources, lives, property and community infrastructure from wildfire and falling hazards associated with dead trees. This also includes tree removal to protect key evacuation routes, communication sites and a general reduction in the buildup of forest fuels. Various resources, including crews from county, state and federal levels of government as well as private crews will be used to remove and dispose of the dead trees. Various funding sources will be used to finance these operations. The resource protection requirements of the Forest Practice Act will still apply.

The project area has been declared a local emergency by al three counties. Governor Davis made an Emergency Proclamation of March 7, 2003, in accordance with the Energency services Act and sections 8625 and 8558(b) of the Government Code and has ordered CDF to help expedite the clearing of the dead trees working in conjunction with other agencies. failure to mitigate this hazard in a timely fashion will likely result in significant natural resource damage, property loss and the potential loss of life.
