Document Description
Replace a comfort station at and provide access to the Main Picnic Area of Big basin Redwoods State Park to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, California Title 24 of the California Building Code. This project will: * Demolish an existing comfort station and construct a new, ADA compliant comfort station in the same location using existing utilities including ground disturbance to a depth of approximately 24" for demolition and trenching to approximately 48" for utilities and concrete paving for parking expansion and pedestrian walkways. * Improve picnic areas including moderate grading to level sites, installing compacted "track fines" (hard, rubber soil stabilizers) and accessible furnishings. * De-compact approximately 6,200 square feet of existing and potentially disturbed soil and place duff, forest litter, forest limbs and plant 200 native seedlings within newly de-compacted areas to mitigate newly added, impervious surfacing. * Construction will occur outside the marbled murrelet breeding season of March 24-September 15. * DPR-approved Best Management Practices will be used to minimize construction and long term impacts. Project protects public health and safety, supports continued use and maintenance, and provides ADA Accessibility.
