Document Description
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has granted an Emergency Permit in accordance with Title 22 to allow one time treatment of a hazardous waste. This treatment will take place between the dates of April 3, 2003 and April 21, 2003. The treatment will be completed within one day during this time period. The waste consists of liquid diethyl ether contained in a steel can with an approximate capacity of one liter.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is necessary to mitigate a hazardous condition. The steel-can with 500 grams of deithyl ether is unstable to safely transport offsite for disposal. This action is being taken to prevent injury to facility personnel or to property or the environment. DTSC has reviewed the detailed procedures for protection of worker and public health and safety. No significant environmental impacts are anticipated because the project is in an area that has previously been disturbed, the site is remote and no sensitive habitats or cultural resources have been identified in the area. Controls in the project design that will eliminate possible significant impacts.
