Document Description
The entitlements to allow the redevelopment of the existing 25,600 square foot historical REA Building within the Railyards Special Planning District. The project proposes to rezone the site from the General Industrial Toxic Special Planning District (M-2-T-SPD) to the Central Business District Special Planning District (C-3-SPD), in order to rehabilitate the existing REA Building and adaptively reuse it for retail and office uses (approximately 11,000 +/- square feet of each use). The building will require extensive repair and renovation to restore it to a functioning facility. The structure is listed as a contributing building on the National Register of Historic Places and is listed on both the California Register of Historical Resources and the City of Sacramento's Official Register of Historic Structures and Preservation Areas. The structure is viewed as an important part of the future development of the Union Pacific (UP) Railyards. The T suffix that is associated with the existing zoning will be removed as a condition of approval. The project will also seek a variance to waive shading requirements for a temporary parking area located on the northern side of the project area.
