Document Description
The University of California, Davis Medical Center, Facilities Design and Construction Department has identified the need to upgrade and replace the existing Tower Tech cooling towers, located at the 2.5 acre Davis Medical Center Central Plant with more efficient and greater capacity cooling towers. The existing cooling towers are located immediately west of the Central Plant and currently consist of 12 units, each with a capacity of 2000 gallons per minute (gpm)/unit. These existing units are 12 feet in height and each have a footprint of 12 feet by 24 feet. At Central Plant buildout (2030), as analyzed in the 1994 EIR, the cooling towers were anticipated to consist of 10 units, with a total capacity of 47,250 gpm. The new cooling towers are proposed to be located just west of the existing towers, and will consist of a total of four units, each with a capacity of 9,500 gpm/unit (total capacity of 38,000 gpm) and have a counterflow design. These new cooling towers will be 50 feet in height and will each have a footprint of 36 feet by 36 feet. Installation of the new cooling towers will require excavation to a depth of five feet under the 5,184 square foot footprint of the proposed cooling towers. No other ground disturbance will take place during construction of the Proposed Project.
