Document Description
The California Department of Water Resources will acquire up to 30,000 acre-feet of stored groundwater stored and potentially acquire a 1-year lease of up to 10,000 acre-feet of groundwater storage capacity, from Santa Clara Water District (SCVWD). This project will make use of existing agreements between SCVWD and Semitropic Water Storage District for groundwater banking in the Semitropic Groundwater Banking Program (Semitropic). The Department will recover water stored in Semitropic through pumping and direct delivery into the California Aqueduct or through exchange of SWP deliveries to the Kern County Water Agency (KCWA). Semitropic's withdrawal capacity ranges from 31,500 acre-feet to 78,050 acre-feet, which is 35% of Semitropic's overall withdrawal capacity. The amount of water that will be purchased by the Department is contingent on SCVWD not requiring all of the recovery capacity of Semitropic for its own use in 2003.
