Document Description
The original McDaniel Slough Restoration plan restores tidal wetland functions to 200 of 240 acres of former tidal salt/brackish marsh adjacent to Humboldt Bay in N. California & enhances the remaining 40 acres as freshwater & brackish ponds, grasslands/riparian areas & includes enhancement of McDaniel Slough/Janes Creek. The enhancement removes barriers to fish access & includes deepening historic slough channels, partial removal of failing or obsolete levees, & restores the tidal estuary. Since the EIR adoption, CDFG acquired additional lands allowing the project to restore/enhance an additional 22 acres of tidal & 23 acres of freshwater habitat. Proposed changes will result in an 1.19 acres of additional impacts to wetlands to be fully mitigated by creation of new wetlands, restoration of 222 acres of tidal wetlands & enhancements of freshwater wetlands.
