Document Description
Approximately 5 acres of soil containing elevated concentrations of chemicals of potential concern pose an unacceptable health risk to future residents. Approximately 1.3 acres of the impacted soil will be designated as wetland preservation easement. The impacted soil in the remaining 3.7 acres will be mitigated. The proposed action includes excavation of 8,000 cubic yards of impacted soil from four areas. The excavated soil will be classified as hazardous or non-hazardous according to Title 22 waste characterization. Non-hazardous impacted soil will be placed between 1 and 8 feet below ground surface in an on-site containment cell. A 60 mil high density polyethylene (HDPE) liner with geotextile fabric will be placed on the bottom and the four sides of the containment cell. Approximately 8-9 inches of aggregate road base will be placed over the impacted soil, which will be covered with three inches on asphalt. A legal deed restriction will be recorded on the wetland easement and the on-site containment cell. The asphalt cap will be inspected annually. Hazardous impacted soil will be transported off site to an appropriate landfill.
