Document Description
Sonshine Properties' Well No. 1 has been contaminated with nitrates in excess of the maximum contaminant level (MCL). A high nitrate level can lead to a condition called "methemoglobinemia," especially in infants and the elderly. In some cases methemoglobinemia can be terminal. Because the mobile home park is geographically isolated, Sonshine Properties is not able to construct an emergency connection with another system, or have water brought in by other means. Sonshine Properties has drilled a well to replace the well with high nitrate level. Although the well does involve a 30% capacity increase, it was specifically drilled to meet the MCL for nitrate.
